Some Easy Tools to Use
Quarterly Goals

So, you can set goals for any length of time that you want. Sometimes yearly goals seem so big and the length of time to get it done seems so long. Like Ali Abdaal (check out his YouTube site), I agree that goals are easier for me to manage when I break them down into smaller chunks.

Goal for Quarter 1

As I mentioned in the previous newsletter titled “Steps to Achieving Your Goals,” choose 1 goal to tackle for the first quarter of 2025. I mention 1 goal so you can try this and not get overwhelmed. Be sure to pick a big goal and make sure it is something that you think is attainable.

Start Where You Are

My suggestion, again from my previous newsletter, is to start from where you currently are and don’t worry if you feel anxious or nervous. You can make any adjustments you want as you go along. The idea is to just start and stick with it for 3 months, course-correcting as needed as you go along.

Goal Subcategories

I absolutely believe that taking your large goal and breaking it down into smaller and smaller categories and smaller goals is essential. You basically want to outline your goal so that you have small enough mini goals to tackle every day.

Weekly Review

Ali Abdaal talks about reviewing quarterly goals every week.

He emphasizes these two things:

  • What are my quarterly goals

  • How are they going

With this practice, you keep your goals and sub-goals top of mind each week and you evaluate how you are doing in your endeavor to reach them. Doing this weekly keeps you on top of things so you don’t get too far behind if you happen to have an unusually disruptive week.

Morning Review

Ali Abdaal also talks about reviewing weekly goals at the end of each week.

He emphasizes these two things:

  • What were my weekly goals

  • How are they going

Goals and Your Identity

One last thing that Ali Abdaal discusses is tying your goals to your identity when possible. For example, he creates YouTube videos. Instead of saying “I create videos for YouTube” he says “I am a YouTube content creator.”

Connecting your goals to who you actually are is a powerful way of reaching them.

Schedule & Track Progress

As I mentioned before, if you schedule your mini goals onto your calendar, you are more likely to actually do them and if you track them and check them off as you complete them, you get that dopamine reward.

Keep Going!

Your commitment to tackle 1 goal for 3 months is admirable! When you feel like procrastinating, take a deep breath and do it anyway! You will be so glad that you did.

Thank You!
